Story time: On Friday or Saturday, my mom was canning some peaches, but needed both wide and regular sized lids. When I got to the store they were out of regular sized lids, so I just got the wides. Monday morning, my mom asked me to walk to the store and get some more canning lids. After I got there, I had to ask her something, so I just walked back home, asked, and went to the store again. Later that afternoon we ran out of lids, so I went back to the store. That night, we were counting jars and we were thinking that we were going to run out of lids. Guess what?! I didn't have to go back to the store (AGAIN) after all! :D
Our basement is usually full of jar - quart jars, pint jars, cup jars, half cup jars, weird shaped pickle jars, jelly jars, half gallon jars. (I think you get the idea that we have a lot of jars.) We do a lot of canning each year. We mainly can peaches, tomatoes, and pumpkins. My mom and I canned boxes of tomatoes and a few peaches on Monday and are doing some more today. We use jars things besides canning too. Our refrigerator has so many jars in it. This morning, Mom actually went and bought more jars! Brady and I could not believe that we would be out of jars, but sadly, we were.
Oh the joys of canning in the hot August kitchen!
This year has been the most pleasant canning experience I ever remember. A few weeks ago we got a window fan/ air conditioner to go above our sink, and it has been so nice a cool that we are no longer dying when we are by the stove. Praise the Lord for fans, and for being able to and having the knowledge to can food.
